KORN's JONATHAN DAVIS: 'I Would Still Love To Tour With THE DEFTONES'
June 26, 2003Jonathan Davis of KORN called into "The Cane Show" on K-Rock in New York on Wednesday (June 25) and once again reacted to recent comments made by DEFTONES singer Chino Moreno in U.S. magazine Revolver.
Responding to Moreno's statement that Davis keeps writing about "bad childhoods and mean moms" in his songs, the KORN frontman said, "Obviously, he's only listening to the first two [KORN] albums… I don't hate Chino at all — he's just a bitter guy. He's been bitter since the time that we all started… It goes back [to] '92, '93… It was us and them, we were all homies, we used to go and stay the nights at their house when we played their clubs up in [Sacramento], and they'd come down to [Huntington Beach], and we'd put them up at our house when they played clubs down here. We were just really tight. And then when things took off [for KORN], he really took it hard and got bitter, and it wasn't our fault or nothing [that his band didn't take off as quickly] — I think they had really shitty management and a lot of things going wrong. And ever since then, we've been trying to hook up and do shows, but there's been this underlying bitterness towards us. And we don't feel like that — those are our homies — and I would still love to tour with them, 'cause I'm a big fan of their band. [But] I'm too old to play that high-school bullshit."
In the same interview, Davis revealed that KORN's as-yet-untitled new album will be out in the fall and described it as "very raw, it's very… not too thought-out. It's taking it back to the beginning when the first KORN [album] came out — a lot of screaming, it's really intense. We always [say] 'This album is the heaviest,' but sometimes [the way] we gauge 'heavy' [may not be seen as such by] different types of people, but I think this time, it's gonna blow people's head off — it's pretty heavy."
